Hey there, fellow travelers! Planning a #trip to #Japan soon? Get ready for an epic adventure filled with amazing sights, delicious food, and unforgettable experiences. But before you jet off, make sure you've #packed these 10 #essential #items to ensure a smooth and enjoyable #journey:

10 Essential Packing Items for Japan

This list is a carefully crafted selection for your Japan escapade, and I'm skipping the obvious items like clothes, personal items, cameras, and the almighty baggage.

1. Handkerchief + Tissues:

Let's start with the basics! While Japan boasts the cleanest and most modern restrooms in the world, you'll want to bring along a trusty handkerchief and/or pack of tissues for drying your hands. The restrooms/toilets here do not provide tissues.

Tip 💡: Forgot to pack one? You can find some adorable themed handkerchiefs as #souvenirs at most attractions!

2. Local Currency (Yen):

Cash is king in Japan, so be sure to have some yen on hand for all your shopping and dining adventures. Recharging physical transport cards like Suica or Pasmo also requires cash.

Tip 💡: Keep your ATM card handy for any extra cash withdrawals.

3. Big Wallet for Japanese Notes:

Get ready to feel like a millionaire with Japan's colorful and larger-than-life yen notes! Make sure you've got a spacious wallet to keep those bills crisp and pristine throughout your trip. I purchased a local wallet as my standard wallet could not fit these notes.

4. Coin Purse:

Prepare for a coin-collecting frenzy! With all the change you'll receive, a handy coin purse is essential for keeping those coins organized and easy to access. Plus, it's perfect for indulging in a little crane or gatcha game fun!

5. Wallet or Purse for Rail Passes:

Keep your JR Rail pass or Suica cards safe and sound with a dedicated wallet or purse. Those paper tickets may be small, but they're easy to misplace—better safe than sorry! These passes will not be re-issued, so keep them very safe.

6. Good Walking Shoes:

Get ready to put some miles on those sneakers! Japan is a walker's paradise, with endless opportunities for exploration on foot. Pack your comfiest shoes and some thick socks to keep your feet happy and blister-free. During our trip last year, we were averaging around 20,000 steps daily.

Tip 💡: You maybe required to take off shoes in many places, so keep that in mind while choosing the right pair. I usually take shoes with straps or zip closures for ease of removal.

7. Foldable Shopping Bag:

Going green has never been easier! Pack a foldable shopping bag for all your souvenirs and konbini hauls—it's eco-friendly and oh-so convenient. Plus, you'll find some adorable themed bags that double as keepsakes!

8. Small Plastic Bag for Trash:

Keep Japan beautiful by packing a small plastic bag for your trash. While you may not find many public trash cans, it's easy to hold onto your rubbish until you spot one. Please be respectful and do not litter the streets.

Tip 💡: You will find trash cans at konbini stores, food stalls, malls, train stations etc.

9. Battery Bank:

Stay connected and powered up with a trusty battery bank. With all the sightseeing and smartphone navigation ahead, you'll want to make sure you're never caught with a dead battery in the land of the rising sun.

10. Pocket Wifi (if applicable):

Keep the whole family connected with a pocket wifi device. Perfect for checking #Google #maps, looking up restaurant recommendations, and sharing your amazing Japan moments with friends and family back home.

Bonus Items 💡:

  • Umbrella: Don't let a little rain dampen your spirits! Pack a compact umbrella for those unexpected showers—you'll thank yourself later. These can also be purchased locally in the convenience stores (konbini).

  • Masks: Join the locals in style with a comfy mask for public transportation or crowded areas. You'll find plenty of options available at train stations and stores.

  • Medications: Don't forget to pack any essential medications, especially if you're traveling with little ones. Stay healthy and happy throughout your Japan adventure!

With these 10 essential packing items (and a few bonus goodies), you're all set for an amazing journey through Japan. So pack your bags, buckle up, and get ready for the adventure of a lifetime!
