Fueled by a scrumptious hotel breakfast, we embarked on a leisurely stroll around the historical Sensoji Temple area in Asakusa, immersed in its timeless charm. Venturing to Shibuya, we witnessed the buzz of Hachiko, the iconic Shibuya scramble crossing, and explored Miyashita Park. For gaming enthusiasts, Shibuya Parco mall, Nintendo Store, and Pokemon Center offered a haven of delights. We also had an amazing Ramen as late lunch in the mall food court which was downstairs. Reservations at Shibuya Sky treated us to breathtaking views, concluding the day with some shopping before retreating to our hotel.

Day 3 (Monday): Artistic Wonders, Vegan Ramen, and Harajuku Delights

Our day commenced with a train ride to Teamlabs, an immersive art experience that captivated our senses. After the experience, we savored the best Vegan Ramen at UZU Tokyo which was at the entrance of Teamlabs. There was an indoor seated restaurant with very long lines and so we opted for the food court style instead. They also had vegan ice cream which was not as good as the entrée. From here, we took a train and delved into the vibrant energy of Takeshita Street in Harajuku. We indulged in street food delights like crepes and rainbow cotton candy from “Totti Candy” which added a flavorful touch to our exploration. We also visited a gatcha store (capsule toys) on the same street called “gatcha gatcha” which was a lot of fun.  We wanted to visit Meiji shrine but realized that it was almost rush hour time for subways and in order to avoid the crowds we called it a day and headed back. We took a brisk walk along Omotesando and enjoyed looking at the shops while we reached the station. Definitely marked for next time. Returning to Asakusa, local eateries and the eclectic Don Quijote store beckoned us for an evening of shopping, creating a perfect end for another day of Tokyo's diverse delights.

Day 4 (Tuesday): Asakusa and Ikebukuro Extravaganza

Our fourth day in Japan was a whirlwind of cultural exploration and modern delights as we delved into the heart of Asakusa before venturing to the vibrant district of Ikebukuro. Explored Asakusa's iconic Senso-ji Temple, Nakamise Shopping Street, and Asakusa Shrine. Discovered the hidden gem - Asakusa Cultural Tourist Information Center for stunning views. Then we dived into the energetic atmosphere of Ikebukuro, enjoying crane games at Sega Ikebukuro Gigo, played a lot of crane games in some store on the way to Sunshine City (we did not win anything), and a sweet break at the Sanrio Café followed by shopping. Our evening concluded with a serene visit to Senso-ji at night.

Day 5 (Wednesday): Bullet Train Marvels and Kyoto Beginnings

Wednesday marked the commencement of a new chapter as we boarded the super-fast Shinkansen (bullet train), embarking on a thrilling journey from Tokyo to Kyoto. Tokyo Station greeted us with a plethora of food options, and we couldn't resist indulging in snacks and a delicious bento box for our Shinkansen adventure. The high-speed train ride was nothing short of memorable, offering smooth and swift travel. A highlight of the journey was catching sight of the majestic Mount Fuji from the train, a picturesque moment etched in our memories. Upon arrival in Kyoto, a taxi swiftly transported us to our hotel, where we checked in, setting the stage for our Kyoto adventure. The surrounding streets beckoned with shopping opportunities, and we immersed ourselves in the charm of Kyoto, exploring the local scene and savoring a delightful dinner at an Indian restaurant.

Day 6 (Thursday): Exploring Fushimi Inari and Tofuku-ji Tranquility

Our day began with a train journey to the enchanting Fushimi Inari Shrine, known for its mesmerizing Torii gates. As we hiked longer amidst the vibrant gates, the initial crowd gradually dispersed, providing a peaceful and beautiful backdrop. After an hour of climbing, we decided to return and opted for a different path, discovering more small shrines along the way. Our exploration continued with a visit to the serene Tofuku-ji Temple, a hidden gem free from crowds. A delightful ramen feast awaited us at the train station, capping off a day filled with awe-inspiring sights and satisfying flavors. Dinner from a convenience store marked the end of a day filled with exploration and serenity.

Day 7 (Friday): Arashiyama's Charm and Culinary Delights

To save time, we hopped into a taxi to reach the enchanting Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, where even an early start couldn't escape the beauty and crowds. Stepping into the historic Tenryu-ji Temple, we marveled at its architecture, delved into its rich history, and explored its serene gardens. A highlight awaited us at the temple restaurant, where we indulged in the traditional multi-course vegetarian meal known as shigetsu—a feast for both the eyes and the palate. This requires a reservation. Our journey continued to the breathtaking Kiyomizu-dera Temple, a truly unforgettable experience, concluding our time in Kyoto on a high note.

Day 8 (Saturday): Rainy Day Casual Shopping

Rain altered our plans, leading to a day of casual shopping. Nishiki Market, though crowded and narrow, offered unique finds. Exploring less crowded streets and department stores, we indulged in treats to take back home, turning an unexpected change of plans into a delightful shopping adventure.
